The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Addis Ababa is seeking a motivated and highly skilled professional to join its team in the position of Trade Development Officer (TDO). This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who have a strong background in trade, investment, and economic relations, and are eager to enhance and strengthen the commercial ties between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
Job Title: Trade Development Officer (TDO)
Terms of Service: Contract (Renewable)
Reports to: Trade and Investment Minister
Location: Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Salary: Negotiable
Contract Duration: One year (extendable for another two years based on satisfactory quarterly performance)

Job Purpose
The TDO will play a key role in enhancing business diplomacy and commercial relationships between Pakistan and Ethiopia. The candidate should demonstrate strong business knowledge, analytical talent, and the ability to identify new market opportunities in the host country.
Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct all types of market analysis for commodities transacted in Ethiopia

Identify potential areas for export promotion of Pakistani products
-
Engage Ethiopian importers and coordinate economic activities concerning Pakistan
-
Facilitate international EXPO and business events between the Embassy and the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce
-
Coordinate business meetings between the Embassy, private companies, and government trade sector
-
Arrange participation of reputable Ethiopian companies in exhibitions scheduled in Pakistan

Develop and execute marketing plans in coordination with the Managing Director

Participate in local industries’ discussions, forums, and conferences
-
Maintain and utilize a contacts database for business matchmaking
-
Translate business documents (English-Amharic and vice versa)

Manage VAT claims at Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority
-
Facilitate visa requests and follow-up with MOFA and immigration
-
Recommend and arrange business fairs for Pakistani products
Knowledge and Experience
-
MBA or Master’s Degree in Economics, Commerce, International Trade, or related field

Minimum 3 years of proven relevant work experience
Key Skills
-
Excellent relationship-building skills with public and private sector executives

Ability to foster positive commercial dynamics and cooperation
-
Strong customer relationship skills with high-level proposal presentations

Excellent verbal and written communication in both English and Amharic
-
Strong computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Understanding of Ethiopian commercial regulations and laws
-
Knowledge of Ethiopian customs procedures and import/export documentation
